A long time Facebook/Meta insider just leaked some emails that show the real reason behind Meta’s recent name change.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, allegedly has a raging foot fetish and is said to have a personal collection of every photo that includes women’s feet on his platform. His obsession is apparently so significant that he wanted to rename Facebook to Footbook. These credible sources sent us screenshots of email discussion involving the senior execs and the Meta board.
Zuckerberg is said to have thought the rebranding to Footbook would have created a friendlier and more engaging platform. He is quoted as saying in a board meeting “I really think focusing on feet will will enable us to put our best foot forward”.
The leaked emails show that Cheryl Sandberg was very much against the name change but was willing to compromise around a more general name that could “in principle include things like feet”.
Hence the name Meta.
This revelation stands in stark contrast to the official reason given for the name change, which was to focus the company on virtual reality. However when you evaluate just how much work they are actually doing in the so called “meta-verse” and the low low quality of the vision, the presentation and the execution so far, it becomes apparent that the meta-verse is just an afterthought for the company.
Even Meta employees don’t think their meta-verse is going to succeed.

Would footbook have made dent in the companies negative image? We’ll never know but in the words of our informant “if Mark were not majority share holder he would been given the boot a long time ago”.
